Restaurant Review: Cafe Gratitude in Larchmont Village

What a gem of a place – seriously. There should be one on every block.  It’s THAT good.  The food is delicious. The crowd is nothing short of inspired. You leave feeling like you’ve mysteriously done ‘good’ in the hour you spent there. No, I’m not exaggerating.

I AM AWESOME at Cafe Gratitude in Larchmont

Cafe Gratitude is a Vegan Restaurant that offers a full variety of both raw and cooked plant based meals.  Unlike many vegan places, they don’t serve “Chik’n” or “Cheeze” or any other fake animal by-product.  They rely on the best nature has to offer in fruits, veggies, seeds, nuts and legumes, reminding you that a meal is not incomplete without meat.

After a surprisingly long wait for a table on a Monday at lunch time (a testament to their food), I had time to scour the menu rather thoroughly and decided to order the I Am Awesome which was Awesome making me feel rather Awesome – so I totally get the name now. I skipped the bread and opted for more greens. I must say, this place is very GF-friendly.  There were plenty of gluten-free options and those that weren’t could easily be made GF. Dairy is obviously not an issue since this place is Vegan.

My lunch-mates had the I Am Whole and I Am Magical.  We all polished our (very generous portioned) plates and couldn’t stop raving about the meal throughout.  It was one of those rare dining moments when everyone is happy – no food envy, no sending something back, just plain-old culinary delight.

As you probably know, I am not a Vegan, but I do enjoy the food. Growing up with Indian parents most of our weeknight meals were Vegan – not intentionally, just because that’s a typical Indian diet.  We ate rice, lentils and vegetables – and I never really thought of it as Vegan, it was just home-cooked food. I had forgotten how wholesome, nutritious and satisfying a plant-based diet is – honestly, if I ate like they do at Cafe Gratitude everyday, I’d make the switch without hesitation.

Oh, and I am SO thankful for this place;) (Sorry, couldn’t resist)
